Case Study: SINGER
Singer Sewing Machines
“The Perfect Hem”
Project Type: Spec Work
Visual Style: Retro-inspired, 4:3 aspect ratio
Cameras: Sony FX6 and FX3
Lighting: Single light setup
At Monolith, we love creating content that feels timeless and unexpected. For this spec project for Singer Sewing Machines, we leaned into DIY culture, humor, and nostalgia to deliver a short, funny spot that’s as memorable as it is simple.
The Concept
In this spot, our talent sits at a Singer sewing machine, carefully hemming his jeans. Once the final stitch is done, he stands, drops his sweatpants, and proudly admires his perfectly hemmed jeans in an out-of-focus mirror. The camera captures the moment from a playful angle between his legs, adding a subtle comedic twist. He turns, checks himself out one more time in the mirror, and walks off with confidence. It’s a funny, unexpected ending that highlights the joy of crafting something yourself.
The Visual Style
We gave the spot a nostalgic, vintage feel, inspired by old TV commercials from the ‘80s and ‘90s.
Aspect Ratio: 4:3, for that retro TV look.
Color Grade: Warm, slightly faded tones to evoke the feel of film stock.
Lighting: Shot with a single light, creating a simple, intimate atmosphere.
The entire spot was shot on Sony FX6 and FX3, delivering cinematic visuals with a minimalist setup.
Why It Works
-This project highlights the timeless appeal of Singer Sewing Machines while bringing in a modern, humorous twist.
-The contrast between vintage aesthetics and unexpected humor keeps it memorable and engaging, perfectly aligning with Singer’s core message: personal craftsmanship and self-expression.
